Are you ready to meet your statutory obligations on emissions through retrofitting your building?

Are your customers worried about the quality of your office space and what you can provide to make sure their employees are both healthy and productive?

In a competitive market now is probably the right time to reassess your buildings and consider if they reflect your brand values and what you stand for?

One way to ensure this is through the opportunities and possibilities retrofitting can provide such as savings on embodied energy, higher productivity and optimisation of space.

Healthy buildings full of high-quality air and natural light are more sought after. Sustainability is central to making this happen. New EPC regulations and emission targets are important to consider for the longevity of your building, this focus should be considered early on in the design process.

You will need a strategy to meet your statutory obligations in 2025 when by law all buildings will require an EPC, and by 2028 when you must have a rating of C or above to lawfully lease it.

Our previous work on the Heals retrofit development on Tottenham Court Road completed in collaboration with John McAslan and Partners, shows how we upgraded the air supply, heating, and cooling in all the office spaces on a listed building. We thermally upgraded the building fabric and existing roof coverings.

The nature of retrofitting an existing building involves resolving the tension between heritage and energy conservation. This was overcome by installing a roof over the external courtyard, creating an atrium. This resulted in external walls becoming internal walls which allowed us to retain the building’s heritage while at the same time improving thermal performance.

In your project, a focus on sustainability and compliance with changing regulations ensures you will be able to rent the building in the future and avoid decreased asset values over time. Through retrofitting you and your team can reduce the impacts of the building on the planet and improve your EPC rating which will future-proof your building.
