Masterplanning

We understand the importance of consultation with the local community and in particular the necessity for local councils to communicate effectively with stakeholders including community groups.

We believe many Masterplans fail where engagement has not been effective or meaningful.

Our Masterplanning experience comes from working on public projects such as the award-winning West Hampstead Station, the Lea Valley regeneration project in East London and the Giants Causeway visitors experience in Northern Ireland.

In Graham Ford’s role as an academic and teacher he is also involved in the exploration of new thinking on architecture and urban design at Cardiff University.

The academic projects he facilitates involve developing a vision for a site and establishing a design brief. Then research parameters are set  for the students which includes the local council’s vision for the area and their core strategies; adopted plans; The London Plan and The London Green Grid.

The students also map health, deprivation and income, biodiversity and infrastructure. The course involves teaching urban design, architectural design, landscape design and exploring different ways of mapping and reading a site. As unit leader, Graham organises and manages reviews of projects with external critics and field visits and meetings with local planners, activists and local community groups.
